    Bottom Line:

    • Barriers included the belief that systematic reviews are not useful or that the results are not valid; not understanding how to access relevant systematic reviews; inability to assess or interpret systematic reviews; and organizational resistance to implementing new evidence
    • Facilitators included the belief in the validity and applicability of systematic review results; awareness of the importance of systematic reviews skills in finding, appraising, and interpreting systematic reviews; and collaboration between policymakers and researchers that produce systematic reviews

    Impact:

    • Conducted to increase understanding of results of systematic reviews, in partnership with Health Canada and provincial partners
    • Used to develop a template for research briefs for translating evidence from systematic reviews, which is currently being used in practice (e.g., CIHR Drug Safety and Effectiveness Network)
    • Informed the conduct of a randomized trial comparing different formats of policy briefs that is currently being conducted
