Team Spotlight: Christina Chiu

Role?

Research Assistant, Team for Implementation, Evaluation and Sustainability

Why did you join the KT Program?

In my previous role as a medical office administrator, I saw firsthand how patients often struggle to navigate the healthcare system. With the high volume of health information and paperwork, it can quickly become overwhelming, especially for those for those facing barriers related to language, socioeconomic status, or access to care. I was drawn to the KTP because of its commitment to patient-centred research. I wanted to be part of a team that helps bridge the gap between research and the real-world experiences of patients, families, and healthcare providers.

What has been the most rewarding project you’ve worked on and why?

The most rewarding project I’ve worked on has been the Healthy Aging in Older Adults Priority Setting Project, which brings together older adults, caregivers, and clinicians to identify the health topics that matter most to them. By combining community insight with high-quality research evidence, it helps ensure that future priorities are meaningful and impactful for people with lived experience. Being involved in an initiative that elevates these voices deepened my commitment to a patient-centred approach and helped ensure that real-world experiences truly shape future research.

Interests outside KTP?

Outside of the KTP, I enjoy going to concerts, watching movies, and volunteering with a local Scouts Canada group, where I help support youth to build outdoor and leadership skills.
