Strengthening Health Security through Implementation Science

Overview

Strong health security (including pandemic preparedness, emergency responses) depends on evidence-informed policies and the ability of organizations, networks, and countries to successfully implement them. This course will teach learners how implementation science can be leveraged to optimize health security through health system intervention planning, implementation and sustainment, thereby closing gaps between evidence, policy and practice. It will provide an overview of implementation science as it applies to health policy and systems research, emphasize the importance of co-production, and provide practical strategies to strengthen implementation capacity at organizational, country and network levels. Throughout, the values and principles of the Health Systems Governance (HSG) framework will be embedded including considerations for transparency, accountability, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Outline

Upon course completion, participants will be able to:

• Explain why implementation science is essential to optimizing the adoption, implementation and sustainability of health system interventions to optimise health security,
• Identify practical organizational, country- and network-level strategies that support successful implementation and health system transformation,
• Identify and apply relevant tools and resources to integrate implementation science into health systems interventions.
