Summary
The KT Program conducted a barriers and facilitators assessment and developed an implementation plan for the use of fascia iliaca (FI) blocks as pain management for hip fracture patients in collaboration with a team at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto. The KT Program also assisted with the development and usability testing of patient and nurse focused educational tools to support FI Block implementation.
Over the last several years the team at St. Michael’s has operationalized the implementation plan to great success, seeing increases in FI Block use and decreases in the time to FI Block use and rates of delirium for hip fracture patients.
