The Impact of Interprofessional Teams on Panel Size: A Rapid Scoping Review

Top 3 highlights:

  • This rapid scoping review summarized the research that exists that looks at the effects of primary care teams on a physician’s ability to provide care to more patients.
  • Despite data that varied (e.g., different end results or different types of primary care teams), we saw a trend emerge. The data showed that primary care teams play a key role in increasing physicians’ capacity to see more patients.
  • We shared our results with patient partners, international, and government (e.g., Ministry of Health) knowledge users. Our findings showed a need for more in-depth research to understand exactly how primary care teams may improve and impact provider capacity and patient care.

What to look out for next:

  • We will publish our manuscript by Fall 2024.
  • Building on our initial findings, Dr. Noah Ivers and Sydney Pearce (post-doctoral fellow) will lead a realist review, to understand the unique components of successful collaborative primary care teams.
