About Us
The Knowledge Translation Program (KTP), part of Unity Health Toronto, supports researchers, practitioners, policymakers, non-profit organizations, and government agencies, to improve health outcomes by putting knowledge into practice. Led by Dr. Sharon Straus, we specialize in knowledge synthesis, implementation science, and health economics research. We offer myriad services including practice-based knowledge translation (KT) tool development, education, training, and consultation to build KT capacity in Canada and internationally. We also lead our own projects to advance the science of knowledge translation, including in Artificial Intelligence in knowledge synthesis, intersectionality in implementation studies, and patient-oriented research.
Established in 2010 with a handful of staff, KTP has grown to include seven scientists and nearly 100 interdisciplinary staff conducting research that advances the science, methods, and practice of knowledge synthesis, implementation, health policy, learning health systems, and health economic analysis. Our Knowledge Synthesis (KS) Team, led by Dr. Andrea Tricco performs and facilitates reviews and network meta-analyses for knowledge users and decision-makers so that they can make timely, evidence-informed healthcare decisions. The Team for Implementation, Evaluation, and Sustainability (TIES), led by Dr. Christine (Tina) Fahim, focuses on tailored capacity-building and mobilizing knowledge to improve implementation and sustainability of evidence-based interventions. The Centre of Excellence for Economic Analysis Research (CLEAR), led by Dr. Wanrudee Isaranuwatchai supports researchers, practitioners and policymakers in healthcare by carrying out economic evaluations of healthcare interventions.
Mission, Vision and Values
Mission
To revolutionize patient care and strengthen health systems by advancing the science and practice of knowledge synthesis and implementation, reducing research waste, addressing health inequities, and building capacity for diverse knowledge users through meaningful collaboration and innovation.
Vision
We are global leaders in knowledge synthesis and mobilization, partnering with patients and other knowledge users to create efficient, equitable, and patient-centered health systems.
Values
- Patient-Centeredness:Our work begins and ends with patients, focusing on improving care and outcomes through meaningful and authentic engagement.
- Health Equity:We are committed to addressing health inequities by embedding justice, fairness, and inclusivity in all aspects of our work, ensuring diverse voices are authentically engaged and represented.
- Collaboration and Mentorship:We foster mentorship, co-creation, and partnerships to build capacity for trainees, researchers, clinicians, patients, and health system decision makers.
- Innovation:We are nimble and responsive, leveraging innovative methods to advance the science and practice of knowledge mobilization.
- Scientific Excellence:We advance the science of knowledge translation internationally and use this to ensure the highest quality methodology in our work, optimizing processes to reduce research waste and accelerating the translation of evidence into practice.
