Improving Canadian Family Physician Knowledge and Performance in Safe Prescribing of Opioids for Chronic Non-Cancer Pain

Improving Canadian Family Physician Knowledge and Performance in Safe Prescribing of Opioids for Chronic Non-Cancer Pain

This project is a research study funded by Health Canada to examine resources to support appropriate opioid prescribing in Canada. In this study, researchers are evaluating three resources to help family physicians use the Canadian Guideline for Safe and Effective Use of Opioids for Chronic Non-Cancer Pain in their practice:

    • Online self-assessment program
    • Practice self-assessment questionnaire
    • Chart review checklist

The research team will use the results of the project to refine these resources and prepare them for wider use in Canada.

We provide knowledge translation coaching for this project by helping the research team incorporate best practices in knowledge translation into the project. This includes identifying and mapping barriers and facilitators to using the Canadian opioid guideline and developing a dissemination plan to share the project results and final resources produced.
