Are you looking to implement an evidence-based program?
Planning for implementation and sustainability is a 3-day workshop on how to apply the science of knowledge translation (KT) to real-world implementation projects to enhance and sustain project outcomes. The workshop focuses on how to use implementation theories, models, and frameworks for effective implementation and sustainability of evidence-based programs.
Who should participate?
The workshop is designed for professionals in any health-related discipline (e.g., healthcare, public health, mental health) who are responsible for implementing programs. All participants must have an implementation project to work on throughout the workshop. Previous participants have come from a range of organizations (e.g., healthcare provider organizations, funding organizations, and government and quasi-government agencies) and have had a variety of backgrounds (e.g., educators, managers, clinicians, knowledge brokers, and researchers). Previous experience or training in KT or implementation science is required.
A hands-on learning environment designed to help participants identify their implementation and sustainability goals and develop an action plan to achieve them.
Interactive activities and discussions to help build competencies in applying KT concepts to implementation projects.
Opportunity to connect with other professionals who are involved with implementing and sustaining projects and learn from each other’s experiences, challenges, and successes.
The workshop includes didactic lectures, practical application activities, and group discussions.
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to do the following:
- Identify and engage relevant stakeholders for implementation
- Assess the context and readiness for implementation
- Describe critical steps of an implementation plan
- Explain how to measure implementation quality and considerations related to fidelity and adaptation
- Assess barriers and facilitators to sustainability and identify sustainability strategies
- Plan for scale up and spread of an evidence-based program
Practicing KT course testimonial—Diana Kaan, Strategic Policy Branch, Health Canada
“Practicing KT is one of the most engaging and useful courses I’ve taken. It has equipped me with the theory, knowledge and tools to do effective KT, and to share what I’ve learned with my colleagues. Already, the course has had a positive impact on my organization. I feel excited about what we’ll be able to achieve”
Optional implementation coaching
Previous participants have found individual implementation coaching following the workshop enhances their learning experience. Participants who opt for implementation coaching will receive three hours of 1:1 coaching from an assigned coach over the phone. Coaching sessions provide participants with opportunities to receive additional personalized support on how to apply workshop content directly to their own project. Coaching sessions are most effective when participants share questions and discussion materials with their coach prior to the session.
KT coaching testimonial—KT Participant
“Having a mentor meant that out of that whole sea of faces there was one person I could call or email with any question…then I got specific feedback about my project which is very helpful”
